The Brothers and Sisters of the Hampden Fire Department are bonded by our duty to serve and protect our community with Integrity, Compassion, Bravery, and Professional Excellence. Our duty is to save lives, protect property, and care for the sick and injured while ensuring the safety and health of one another.
About the Department:
The Hampden Fire Department is undergoing many changes to bring us up to current times and practices, which will enable us to further provide higher levels of care and service to the people of Hampden and the surrounding communities.
The Hampden Fire Department and the Town of Hampden have seen history being made as our first three Full-Time/Career Firefighters have been added to the workforce. Having these three personnel manning the station Monday through Friday during business hours enables us to respond immediately to Fire, Rescue, Hazardous Materials, and Medical calls while awaiting for further staffing to respond.
On top of the addition of the Full Time firefighters, the rest of the department members have transitioned from a completely Volunteer force to what is known as Paid-On-Call, or a Call Department. What this means is that now any time a 911 call is received, those who are not Full-Time personnel will receive a set hourly rate for the duration of that 911 call.
The Hampden Fire Department serves the Town's approximately 5,240 inhabitants as well as the adjoining communities through mutual aid agreements. We currently have around 25 personnel training at the minimum to the Firefighter I and Emergency Medical First Responder levels. Many of our personnel are Pro-Board certified to the National Firefighter I/II level or above, and are either Emergency Medical Technicians, Paramedics, Critical Care/Flight Paramedics, or Nurses. Our personnel attend training sessions every Monday night year-round, to improve our knowledge and skill bases as well as meet training requirements passed down from the State and National oversight services.
The Hampden Fire Department consists of the Chief of Department, two Deputy Chiefs, two Captains, two Lieutenants, a Fire Prevention Lieutenant, and the Firefighter/First Responders, Firefighter/EMT's, Firefighter/Paramedics, and Probationary Firefighters. We come from all walks of life, with some of our members serving as Full-Time/Career Firefighter/Paramedics in neighboring towns, while others work as Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, State and municipal employees, etc. Having this diverse group of people at your service puts us at an advantage, as we are able to provide a much more effective and knowledgeable response to your time of need. What we share in common besides our training is the desire to give back to our Town and the people who call this home.
